East Star Chinese Buffet in Houston

It was actually good. The price wasn't bad and the service was perfect

This is always a go to and has never disappointed. The sushi is great off a buffet. They always have oysters on the half shell and boiled shrimp. Though I'm not too fond of the fried crab it seems to be a hit for many others. The other selections are vast and the soft serve ice cream for dessert is better than any other out there. For $30 bucks two can eat pricey seafood on a budget. Happy shelling.

Mediocre food: too much soy sauce on everything, not that much variety, etc.We had an especially distasteful experience with billing. Our server made a mistake and overcharged us by 50% - which is not ideal but understandable as an occasional slip-up. But after we sensed something wrong (paying $60 for 3 people during lunch) on the car and returned to fix the problem, the owner didn't return the tip we originally gave, glossing over the fact that we were then effectively tipping 30% for a messed up bill and 'meh' service at a buffet. IMO, a good restaurant would have comped the entire meal. To compound our negative experience, we found that the original charge had not been changed and still stood in our credit card account.Given the other positive reviews, I would like to believe that we had a one-off experience. But I think the breakdown in customer service is worth mentioning.

Great service. Very conscious about Covid. They wear mask and face shields. They also provide gloves to wear while serving yourself at the buffet.

Very good food! The only Chinese buffet I will go to, and I live 30 minutes away. The only thing I say if avoid Sunday afternoons. Last time we tried to go there was no where to park and people were circling the parking lot.

Too good food. Had all kinds of seafood with lots of variety food. Service was super attentive. It was crowdy at 3 so u might understand the quality of the food.

The food is average but I mostly ate sushi. The sushi was not bad at all, but it didn't feel as fresh as it should. Be careful about some rolls that have pink sauce on them those tend to be spicy, not too much, but if you are sensitive to it you might not like them. I have to say that the service is good, people are kind and they are always aware to refill your bevarage.

Crab was delicious! Sushi bar was delicious! And they had a fruit salad that I tried very hard to finish because it was just what I needed to top off a great dinner for 5. My kids love this place for the variety of flavors and textures. The staff is so good you always have a full water glass. My kids always complain about poor staff but East Star Buffet is a home away from home.

The staff was very nice but they had no sweet tea which was a big bummer.

Food is ok to pretty good. The spicy chicken is pretty mild but very tasty. Typical buffet. Server was very nice and helpful. You can get in and out very fast if you're in a hurry.

I was on a Quest to find a good Chinese Buffet and Finally found "The One". East Star is Great! The food is Always fresh. Great Selection. Thank You, I dine there regularly now. There is sometimes a line and you may need to wait for a table to become available. But that makes my point - the place is Great.

I have never been to a buffet/restaurant where the waitress’s ask for a tip. It is completely up to the customer if and how much they tip. She stood at our table and said we needed to leave a tip. I and no one from my work will be eating here again. Very disappointed.

As far as Chinese buffets go this place is a staple. They always have a loaded buffet with tons of variety. They have pretty good sushi too. Best advice is to go at peak busy times and you'll get the freshest food. I don't eat the Chinese buffet often but when I do, I hit up East Star for sure.

The food was changed constantly but there was no one trying to maintain the order everyone didn't have masks they went to the buffet area and no one was social distancing and the employes werent doing anything about it.

Man this Buffet is Awesome. I mean my family and. I come all the way from north Houston to come enjoy the food. The Crawfish, the Oysters, Crabs and Shrimp are the prime foods they got and lines form when they finish.. Not so long ago I ran into someone waiting line for crawfish like me who said they came from Beaumont, TX. So I will continue to go there.

A great selection of food for a buffet but small area. They get a bit crowded and seems most people don’t have manners.

The food was good however last I went allergies were a concern and my son had a allergic reaction because of cross contamination

This place is soooooo good! Everything we ate was great. Service was excellent. Had a good amount of Sushi including some you don't see often on a buffet. If I lived down here this place would be my new 'go to' place to eat Chinese. I hurt myself here by eating way to much! :)

This place doe not have much of a selection. They have 2 island.1 island of Asian and the another of american food. The rest is salad, sushi and desserts. The food is good. It would be nice if they have more food to offer since they are a buffet. Friendly service!

We enjoyed it. Not everything was amazing, but that's all dependent on preference. The things I'd normally get elsewhere were just as good here. I will say it's a very loud environment. But staff was friendly and attentive. I couldn't find prices anywhere so for anyone wondering kids under 9 are 5.99 and I believe adults are 15.99. I don't know if the prices change but that was the dinner price on a Friday night. We will be returning as it's 5 minutes from our home and my daughter really enjoyed it and says it's her new favorite restaurant.

Yummy all you can eat. They have been around for a long, long time. I want the wings alone. Good Chinese American buffet.

Was all old tasting, water was so horrible , unfiltered, shrimp were slimy. Has really gotten bad over last year...

$70 for a family of 4 with barely anything good to eat. Not Worth it. Flaming Grill on I-10 in East Houston offers more variety at a much lower price. My mother complained of a moldy smell towards the kitchen, and that while wearing a mask Signifying a lack in Kitchen Cleanliness. Restrooms stink and need more cleaning. Some food was raw or Undercooked. For $70 I could have eaten at a better, safer, and cleaner restaurants. Oh, not to mention little regard for Social Distancing despite signs posted all over the restaurant when I went.

This place is UH-mazing. Ling, one of their bussers, remembered me from a visit about a year ago! She's very sweet, very humble and hospitable. Overall, awesome experience today even with the whole Coronavirus situation. Tables spaced 6 feet apart, every other booth is open, marking tape for direction around the buffet, mask and glove requirements (plenty of gloves, hand sanatizer, & napkins provided). I don't believe in the hubbub but I'm happy they were open because my husband and I needed this! The only negative thing I can think of is some of the meat was a little dry (like the steak). Vegetables were yummy, most meats were yummy (I didn't like the peanut chicken, the salty steak from the meat and broccoli, or the meat on a skewer), sugar glazed peanuts & ice cream were also yummy. Good buffet, lots of variety. Even some simple sushi rolls. If can be very busy at peak times.

This is a pretty good Buffet. They have a great selection and good atmosphere. The food was refreshed constantly so most all of it was pretty tasty. Our waitress was excellent. She deserved a big tip. She was very helpful with the child that was with us and making sure drinks for full and that we were always doing well. Only complaint I really had was the cost. It was just a little higher than I expected and since we traveled all that way didn't want to go back to one of the others.

Wow! The buffet choices are endless and the food is excellent! This place is always packed but the line moves quickly! Food is always fresh and hot. Sometimes I pop in and grab a box of yummies to go. Staff is helpful and gracious. You'll find something for everyone.

Friendly staff & service!!! The manager of this place goes out of his way, to make dining experience here an enjoyable one! The waitstaff are pleasant and very helpful. The ice cream here very creamy and smooth. There is an excellent selection of buffet style foods and plenty of choices for sushi here. The restaurant is located at the corner of El Camino and NASA Road Boulevard in the Clear Lake Area.

They have done some upgrading and improved the quality since my last try. I'm sure I could nit-pick and create a list, however a lot of these issues are in fact the crowd that's here too.. The buffet remained the same the items are a bit refined and tasty...Not alota photos just came this time to celebrate sons 1yr Birthday local to our office

This place is probably the best Chinese buffet in all of south Houston. Dare I say I haven’t had a better Chinese buffet anywhere else near Houston. For the value and patience they take it’s simply the best.

This buffet was crazy busy on Saturday. The selection was okay. Service was smooth . the down fall tho. Cross contamination with the tongs. Selfish tongs in the chicken. It was all over the place. I would say maybe they should have a bigger dessert selection . there wasnt much.

This place has been around for a long time. It's always packed even on weekdays for lunch. It's one of top buffets in town in terms of quality, value, and service. About $10 for lunch. Standout dishes include the peanut chicken, general tso chicken, tofu and veggies, ceviche, sweet bread. The sushi is excellent for a buffet. The salmon was buttery and tasted fresh. No fishy smell or rubbery texture. The service was very friendly and the staff make small talk with the regulars. And it seems like this place has a lot of regulars. The only downside is there can be a long wait especially on Sundays. In that case, just ask for a to-go box. It's only $5 per pound for regular food or $7 for seafood which a great deal.

Food has good variety. I'm happy so long as I find something throughout the selection that I enjoy. The staff is friendly and quick to respond. Food is constantly replenished. Been here about 6 times so far and each time their service is consistent. So far I haven't had any issues with any of my visits. Prices are fair and are about comparable to other buffets near by .
